The Advisor answers questions about the people in your life and work, using what Groupthink already knows about them. It can also suggest changes to your record, like logging a call or adding a commitment. Nothing is written until you tap **Confirm**.

The Advisor needs a Groupthink sign-in. See [Sync and signing in](/docs/ios_sync_sign_in).

## Opening the Advisor

Tap the round button with the sparkle in the middle of the tab bar. It is in the same place on every tab.

What it opens depends on what you're looking at:

- **On a person's page**, it opens about that person only. It says **Ask about Sam** at the top, and every question you ask goes in with Sam's name attached. Tap **Done** to close it. If you open it again before leaving the page, your conversation is still there.
- **Anywhere else**, it covers all your relationships and opens with **What do you want to know?**

Either way you start in the same place: a row of four small buttons, a few questions you can tap, and the box to type in at the bottom.

For a question about someone else while you're on a person's page, go back to any other screen and tap the button again.

### Record, log, plan and add from the same button

At the top of the Advisor is a row of four small buttons, all the same size:

- **Record** starts a recording. See [Recording a conversation](/docs/ios_recording). While a recording is running it shows a red dot and says **Recording**, and takes you back to it.
- **Log** opens the box to type or paste a note. On a person's page it logs the interaction for that person.
- **Plan** opens Make a plan.
- **Add person** adds someone to People.

Each one closes the Advisor and takes you straight there.

If you aren't signed in, the button still opens. The four buttons work as usual (recording and notes don't need an account), and underneath you can sign in to use the Advisor.

### For your attention

Under the questions, one line tells you how many people are worth a look right now, such as **10 things for your attention**. Tap it to open the cards, and tap a card to open that person. Tap the line again to close them. If nothing needs you, it says so.

## Asking a question

Tap one of the questions on the opening screen, like **What do I owe people this week?**, or type your own in the box at the bottom and tap the green arrow.

The Advisor then shows only your conversation. Your question sits just above the box, with **Thinking…** under it while the Advisor works, and the answer appears there. The box is empty again and the keyboard stays up, so you can type a follow-up straight away.

Two buttons at the top of a conversation:

- **Start** (top left) goes back to the opening screen, with the four buttons and the attention line. Your conversation is kept: tap **Back to your conversation** to return to it.
- The compose button (top right) starts a new conversation. Changes you already confirmed stay on your record.

Ask a straight question, like "When did I last talk to Priya?", and you get a straight answer. Numbers in the answer, like [1] and [2], point to the records it came from, listed underneath under **From your record:**. Tap a source to open the person it belongs to: a person opens their page, and a note, an open thread or a commitment opens the page of the person it is about. So in an answer about two people, each source opens the right person. A meeting is shown as a label, and so is a commitment that belongs to someone who isn't in your own contacts.

Ask for advice, like "How should I approach my next conversation with Marcus?", and you get advice instead, with the people and records it drew on listed underneath.

When you ask from a person's page, sources show as labels only, since that person's page is already right underneath.

## Suggested changes

Sometimes the Advisor offers to change your record for you. Each suggestion shows up as a card under its reply. The card says:

- what it wants to do, and who it's **For**
- **What will be written:**, line by line
- **Why:**, and the records it based the suggestion on

The Advisor can suggest five kinds of change:

| Suggestion | When you confirm, you'll see |
| ----------------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------- |
| Draft a follow-up email or text | **Draft saved** |
| Log an interaction | **Interaction logged** |
| Add a commitment, like "You owe Priya: Send the deck" | **Commitment added** |
| Change how often you want to be in touch | **Cadence updated** |
| Add a note about someone | **Note added** |

Tap **Confirm** to write it. The card changes to **Written to your record:** and shows what was saved. In the Advisor for all your relationships, **View on Sam's page** takes you to the person it landed on. From a person's page, the page underneath updates on its own, so the new entry is there when you close the Advisor.

Tap **Dismiss** if you don't want it. The card says **Dismissed. Nothing was written.**

Suggestions don't last forever. An old one reads **This suggestion expired. Nothing was written. Ask the Advisor again if you still want it.**

If a suggestion can't be applied, for example because something changed since it was made, the card says so in red and nothing is written.

## Drafts are never sent for you

A drafted follow-up is saved as a draft. The card says **Saved as a draft. Groupthink never sends it; copy it and send it yourself.**

- **Copy draft** copies the message (and the subject line, for an email) so you can paste it anywhere.
- **Share** opens the iPhone share sheet, so you can pick Mail, Messages or another app and send it from there.

Either way, you're the one who sends it.
