# Today

> Your home page: the day ahead, what you owe people, and who to check in with.

**Today** is the page Groupthink opens on. It shows your day: who you are meeting and what to know about them, meetings you still need to debrief, what you owe people, and who you are falling behind with. You can also step back and forward through your calendar a day, a week, or a month at a time.

These steps cover the web app at [app.groupthink.com](https://app.groupthink.com) and the Groupthink desktop app, which show the same page.

## Getting there

Click **Today** at the top of the left sidebar, or go to [app.groupthink.com/today](https://app.groupthink.com/today).

Today replaced three older pages. The **Daily Overview**, **Upcoming**, and calendar pages are no longer in the sidebar, and their old addresses (`/intelligence`, `/dashboard` and `/calendar`) now send you to Today. Past meetings moved to **Recaps** in the sidebar.

The top of the page greets you by name with the date underneath.

## Moving between days, weeks and months

A bar across the top of the page controls what you are looking at.

| Control | What it does |
| ------------------------------ | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **‹** and **›** | Step back or forward one day, one week, or one month, depending on the view. |
| **Day** / **Week** / **Month** | Switch views. |
| **Today** | Jump back to today's day view from anywhere. |

The label next to the arrows tells you where you are: **Today**, **Yesterday**, **Tomorrow**, or a date in the day view; **This week** or a date range in the week view; the month name in the month view.

The address in your browser updates as you move, so you can bookmark or share a link to a particular day or week.

## The day view: today

This is what you see when you first open the page. The first load of the morning can take a little while, because Groupthink builds your brief fresh when you ask for it. While it works, a **Gathering today's brief** panel shows each part as it arrives. If it is slow, the panel says **Taking longer than usual. Still working on it.**

From top to bottom:

### Story of the day and today's people

A short paragraph about the shape of your day, followed by the faces of everyone you are meeting today. Click a name to open that person's page. The paragraph needs an active trial or paid plan.

### Prep for today

One card per meeting on today's calendar, with who is in it, what you last discussed, and what is still open between you. Click a card to expand it. [Meeting Prep in Your Daily Brief](/docs/meeting_prep_daily_brief) explains what a prep card contains and which parts need a paid plan.

Each card has a row of quick actions:

- **Add note** adds a prep note for the meeting.
- **Copy link** copies the Groupthink meeting link.
- **Mark prepped** marks the meeting as prepped. Click it again to undo.
- **Reschedule** appears on a one-off event you organized whose time has passed. See [Move an Event to Another Day](/docs/move_an_event).
- **Dismiss** hides the card from today's brief.
- **Open agenda** opens the meeting's agenda.

If you have no calendar connected, this section offers to connect one instead.

### Did this happen?

Once a meeting is over, its card may ask **Did this happen?** with two buttons:

- **I went** counts the meeting as contact with the people on it (the card confirms who, for example "Counted as contact with Shari."), and opens a box where you can jot down how it went. This matters most for in-person meetings, which never produce a transcript.
- **Didn't happen** records that it did not take place, so it does not count as contact.

Click **Change** to switch your answer, or click the selected answer again to clear it. Groupthink only asks about meetings where the answer is useful: ones that have ended, have a named person on them, are not a recurring internal block, and have nothing recorded yet.

### Your pending list

Below the prep cards is everything waiting on you. Each section only appears when it has something in it.

| Section | What is in it |
| -------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Debriefs needed** | Meetings that ended without a debrief from you. Click **Debrief now** to write one right there, or pick **Nothing notable** in that box to clear it without writing anything. **Open meeting** takes you to the full meeting. |
| **Prep for tomorrow** | Tomorrow's meetings, with the important ones marked **Important**. Click one to open its prep. |
| **Open threads** | Things you still owe people across your relationships. Rows can be marked **Time-sensitive** or **You owe this**. Click a name to open that person's page. |
| **Relationship check-ins** | People you are overdue with or coming due with, based on the cadence you set. See [Staying in Touch](/docs/staying_in_touch) for how this list works. |
| **Coming up** | Birthdays and anniversaries in the next two weeks. |
| **This week added up** | A look back at what moved across your relationships over the past week, such as threads covered and touchpoints made. |

If nothing is waiting, you see **Nothing pending right now.** instead.

### Further down

The page also shows **Recently met** (people you met in the past 7 days) and **Time to reconnect** (relationships that have gone quiet based on your cadence). A few extra cards appear only when they have something to show, such as a look-ahead at later meetings or a weekly summary of what Groupthink captured. An **Add contact** button sits at the bottom.

### A brand-new account

If Groupthink has nothing to work from yet, Today shows a single setup card in place of all of the above. It asks you to connect a calendar, or, if your calendar is already connected, to **Add your first contact** or **Paste your last meeting's notes**.

## The day view: other days

Step to any other day and you see that day's calendar instead of the brief.

- **Future days** show each meeting with a **Start prep** or **Review prep** button once the meeting is within 48 hours.
- **Past days** show a **View recap** link for meetings Groupthink captured, or **Open agenda** for meetings that have an agenda but no recap. Past meetings can also ask **Did this happen?**, and an event you organized that looks like it never happened can be moved. See [Move an Event to Another Day](/docs/move_an_event).

Meetings also carry a small status chip when there is something to say:

| Chip | Meaning |
| ----------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Prep ready** | A future meeting that already has prep. |
| **Happening now** | The meeting is in progress. |
| **Needs debrief** | The meeting ran but you have not debriefed it yet. Click the chip to write one. Recurring meetings do not get this chip, so a weekly standup does not nag you every week. |
| **Debriefed** | You have debriefed this meeting. |

A plain scheduled meeting has no chip.

## The week view

Weeks run Monday to Sunday.

- A short paragraph at the top sums up the week, with a **Based on** list showing what it drew from. On a thin week it is marked **Not much on the record this week**.
- **Arcs this week** lists everyone you connected with that week, from meetings and anything you logged, ranked by how often. Each row has a strip of seven squares showing which days you were in touch, a count of touches, and a **Falling behind** or **Overdue** chip if you are behind on your cadence with them.
- **Day by day** lists each day's meetings with their times and status chips.

## The month view

A calendar grid, Monday to Sunday, with today outlined. Each day shows up to three meetings, usually with a chip naming someone on each, and a **+N more** line when there are more. Click any day to open it in the day view.

## Printing Today

Open Today in your web browser and press **⌘P** (Mac) or **Ctrl+P** (Windows), or use your browser's Print command. The printout is laid out for paper rather than copied from the screen:

- The sidebar, buttons, date controls and extra cards are left off.
- Colors and shaded boxes become plain black on white.
- Items in **Open threads** get a checkbox you can tick with a pen.
- A blank margin runs down the right side for handwritten notes.
- The top of the page shows today's date and the time you printed it.

The printed heading always shows today's date, so printing works best from the today view.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### Where did Daily Overview, Upcoming, and the calendar go?

They are all part of Today now. Your day's brief is the today view, your upcoming meetings are a click of **›** away, and the calendar is the **Week** and **Month** views. Old bookmarks still work and land on Today.

### Is this the same as the Daily Brief email?

They share the same prep. The [Daily Brief](/docs/daily_brief) is an evening email about tomorrow's meetings and today's recaps. Today is the live version in the app, and it also covers debriefs, open threads, and check-ins, which the email does not. If you want Today itself in your inbox, turn on the **Daily Page** email, which sends this page each morning at a time you pick. See [The Daily Page Email](/docs/daily_brief#the-daily-page-email-your-day-in-the-morning).

### Why is my Relationship check-ins list empty?

It only includes people who have a cadence set. See [Staying in Touch](/docs/staying_in_touch) to set one.

### Why does my brief say it could not load?

Click **Try again**. If one part of the page is unavailable, the rest still loads.
