iPhone App: Known Issues and Limitations
What the iPhone app can and can't do right now, and the limits worth knowing before they surprise you. We update this page as things change.
Recording phone calls isn't possible
Limitation: Groupthink can't record phone or FaceTime calls — not the other person, and not your own side.
Why: iOS gives the microphone exclusively to the call, so any recording started during one captures silence. This is an iOS restriction that applies to every app, not something Groupthink can turn on.
What to do: Put the call on speaker and record the room, or capture the key points afterward with Log interaction. Groupthink warns you if you start a recording while you're already on a call. See Recording conversations.
Summaries need a recent iPhone
Limitation: The on-device summary above a transcript needs Apple Intelligence, which means an iPhone 15 Pro or newer with Apple Intelligence turned on in iOS Settings. A supported phone with it switched off gets no summary. The app itself needs iOS 26.
What to do: Without it you still get the full transcript. Only the summary is unavailable, and the app tells you which of the two applies.
Overview and People need sign-in
Limitation: The Overview and People tabs read your relationships from Groupthink's servers, so they need an account. Sign in with Apple, Google, or Microsoft.
What to do: Recording, notes, links, and the Share sheet all work on the device with no account. Sign in when you want your relationships and daily read on the phone. See Sync and signing in.
Extra calendar accounts are coming soon
Limitation: Adding a second Google calendar or an Outlook calendar to your Overview is marked "Coming soon" and isn't active.
What to do: The Overview reflects the calendar on this device for now.
Not on iPhone yet
Some things in Groupthink on the web haven't reached the iPhone app. Today these live on the web:
- Projects
- Email-in and forwarding notes by email
- Automatic ingestion from meeting bots and other tools
You can still paste a recap, transcript, or link into the phone by hand with Write or paste on the Capture tab. It's the automatic feed that hasn't reached the phone.
Action items are on the phone. The action-item inbox, Activity, and Availability all open from the toolbar on the Overview tab.
We're bringing more of the web experience to the phone over time.
