Announcing Chat

Elle Morrill

Today we’re excited to introduce Groupthink Chat—a real-time messaging platform redefining how teams connect, collaborate, and innovate alongside powerful LLM-powered chat bots.

In an era where remote work is the new norm, effective communication goes beyond simple messaging. It’s about creating a dynamic space where real-time and asynchronous conversations fuel collective intelligence. Groupthink Chat not only bridges the gap between team members across time zones but also taps into your organization’s vast reservoir of meeting notes, documents, and past chats, transforming everyday exchanges into powerful insights.

Groupthink Chat brings together the best of both private and organization-wide conversations. Whether you need to send a quick direct message, have a focused discussion with a small group, or spark a company-wide conversation, Chat is built to handle it all. And with integrated access to our AI-powered assistant, you can simply @mention Groupthink to get insights drawn from your company’s collective knowledge.

What’s New with Groupthink Chat

Flexible Communication Options

  • Private Chats: Engage in one-on-one conversations or set up private group chats. Plus, chat directly with Groupthink Assistant—your personal, context-aware AI ready to help with any query.
  • Organization Chats: Open up larger channels for broader team discussions with organization-wide chat rooms that everyone in your company can join.

Seamless Room Management

Creating and managing your chat rooms has never been easier. With just a few clicks, you can:

  • Create New Rooms: Simply head to the Chat section, click the + button, and choose “New Room…” to name your room and set its permissions—either Protected for invite-only discussions or Organization for open collaboration.
  • Share and Collaborate: Invite teammates directly via email and adjust permissions on the fly. Room Owners can grant new roles or remove members as needed, ensuring your conversations stay focused and secure.
  • Joining Existing Conversations: Discover and join any chat rooms available to your organization effortlessly. While you can’t leave a room on your own (just yet!), a room Owner is always there to help manage memberships.

Stay in the Loop

Groupthink Chat keeps you updated with:

  • Real-Time Notifications: Chat room names will appear in bold when there are unread messages, and desktop notifications ensure you never miss an important update.
  • Direct Messages: Enjoy private conversations that are completely separate from organization-wide discussions. Remember: changing DM permissions to “Anyone in the organization” makes your conversation discoverable, so use this option with care.

Leveraging Groupthink AI in Chat

Groupthink Chat is more than just a messaging tool—it’s powered by our built-in AI that’s here to make your conversations smarter. Whether you’re brainstorming ideas, seeking quick insights, or just need a little help clarifying a point, our AI is ready to jump in.

How It Works

  • Direct Interaction:
Simply type @groupthink followed by your query or command, and our AI will join the conversation with context-aware responses.
  • Contextual Assistance:
The AI leverages your company’s stored information to provide tailored answers and suggestions, ensuring that its input is always relevant to your work.
  • Collaborative Conversations:
Use the AI to facilitate discussions. It can offer insights, help track decisions, or provide additional data during chats, making remote and asynchronous communication more effective.

A Few Things to Note

As with all new features, we’re continuously working to make Chat even better for you. At launch, you might notice a few limitations:

  • There’s no way to remove yourself from a room—if you need to exit a conversation, simply ask the room Owner.
  • Advanced features such as search, message badges, and mobile app support are on our roadmap.
  • Our AI Assistant can’t yet read files or view images in chat.

We’re listening, and your feedback is crucial to our future updates. Drop us a note at support@groupthink.com with any questions, ideas, or concerns.
