Remember Our Year

Look back at a year with someone, month by month, and keep the moments you want to mention.

On this page

Remember our year shows what Groupthink has with one person for a year, month by month, oldest first. Use it to look back before a holiday card, a birthday or a catch-up, and to pick the moments you want them to know you remember.

These steps cover the web app at app.groupthink.com and the Groupthink desktop app, which show the same screens.

Open it

  1. Open the person from Relationships.
  2. On their page, click Remember our year. It is collapsed until you open it.

It opens on the current year. Use the arrows beside the year to go back a year, or forward again up to this year.

To look at a different stretch of time, click Choose dates, pick a start and an end day, and click Show these dates. A range can be up to three years long. Click Back to and the year to return to the year view.

Remember our year isn't on your own person page.

What you see

Each month has a heading with counts of its items, such as "3 happened · 1 said". A month with nothing in it says Nothing on record, so a year always reads as twelve months.

Every item shows a label, its day, its words, and a link to where it came from, such as Meeting recap, Note or Promise. Click the link to open the source. When the same words came from more than one place, the item shows once and lists the others after Also in.

When Groupthink only knows the day something was written down, not the day it happened, the day reads Recorded and then the date. A detail saved in September doesn't read as having happened in September.

What each label means

Label What it covers
Happened Something that took place: a meeting with them that Groupthink captured, a calendar event with them, a logged call or visit, or a detail about their life you saved.
Said Words someone said or wrote: a text, email or Slack thread, something from your notes on them, a promise either way, or an open thread.
My reflection Your own answers from How it's felt, with the note you wrote.
Groupthink noticed Something Groupthink counted, such as your Busiest month together. Click the button under it to see the items it counted.

Busiest month counts meetings, calendar events, logged contacts and notes labelled Happened. Texts and emails are Said, so they don't add to it. It only appears when one month has more than any other.

If a range is so full that one kind of source has more than 500 items, a notice says the latest ones are missing and offers Choose a shorter range.

Keep what you want to mention

  1. Next to Keeping for, type what you are gathering for, such as "Card 2026". You can leave it empty.
  2. Click Keep on any item you want to mention. It changes to Kept. Click it again to take it back.
  3. Kept items collect at the top, under What I want [name] to know I remember, with the name of what you are keeping for.
  4. Click Add a note under a kept item to write yourself a reminder about it. Click Change note to edit it, or Remove to take the item off the list.

Each name you type under Keeping for has its own list. Other names you kept things under for this person show as chips beside the box. Click one to switch to that list.

You can keep any item except a Groupthink noticed count.

Help me write

Once you have kept something, Help me write writes a draft from your list.

  1. If you want, type anything to add in the box above the button, for example "An outline for a handwritten card".
  2. Click Help me write.
  3. The draft appears beside Written from what you kept, the list of items it was written from.
  4. Click Copy draft and paste it wherever you are writing.

Help me write stays off until you keep something. It also stays off if everything you kept is a My reflection item, and when more than 20 of the items you kept are not My reflection items. Remove a few to turn it back on.

To write to someone without starting from the year, see Draft a note before you reach out.
