Slack

What the Slack source shows in Conversations, and how to paste a Slack thread in.

On this page

Slack is one of the sources listed under Conversations in the left sidebar. It is the list of Slack threads you pasted in. This page says what the source shows and how to save a thread to it. To send meeting summaries out to Slack, see Slack under Integrations.

What it brings in

Slack threads, one at a time, by paste. The card in the Slack pane is called Slack threads and reads: "Pull threads into a person's details without installing an app. Copy the thread's messages in Slack and paste them here."

A Slack activity digest that you forward by email shows in this list too. See Email.

Turn it on

There is no switch. The Slack threads card shows Available via paste. To save a thread:

  1. In the left sidebar, click Slack under Conversations.
  2. At the top of the page is the Slack settings pane. If it is closed, click Source settings.
  3. On the Slack threads card, click Paste a Slack thread.
  4. Paste the thread into the Slack thread box. Its placeholder reads "Paste the thread's text here…".
  5. Under Who is it with? (optional), search for a contact or create one. You can leave it blank.
  6. Click Save thread.

Two notes sit under the fields:

  • Under the box: "Paste the messages, not only a link. Groupthink can't open Slack, so a link on its own is saved as just the link."
  • Under the person field: "Pick someone and the thread is read into their details. Leave it blank and the thread is saved without a person."

When the thread is saved, a green message reads "Saved. It is in the list below." If you picked a person, it names them, for example "Saved for Adam Smith. It is in the list below." Click Done to close the box.

If you paste the same thread twice, the message reads "You already saved this exact thread, so nothing new was added."

The same card is under Settings > Capture.

What you see

The page is titled Slack, with this line under the title: "Slack threads Groupthink took in, newest first."

Before anything has come in, the page reads Nothing from Slack yet and the Slack settings pane is open. Once there are threads in the list, the pane starts closed. Click Source settings to open it.

Each saved thread is a row with a Slack chip. If you picked a person, the row shows their name, which opens their page, and a Move to someone else button.

A thread saved without a person shows no name, and its row has no button to add one. Pick the person before you click Save thread if you want their name on it.
