Exporting Meeting Transcripts and Summaries
Download a transcript or copy a recap to use elsewhere.
On this page
Groupthink lets you export a meeting for sharing, archiving, or use in other applications. On the Transcript tab you can download the full transcript as a text file or copy it to your clipboard. On the Summary tab you can copy the recap itself — the summary, decisions, and action items — without the transcript. All of these are free and available on any meeting that has the content.
Where to find the export buttons
The recap page has two tabs — Summary and Transcript — and each has its own export button.
- Open a completed meeting from your dashboard or calendar to reach its recap page.
- On the Transcript tab, Download Text and Copy to Clipboard sit at the top, just above the transcript itself.
- On the Summary tab, Copy summary sits at the top, next to the personal/shared toggle.
If a meeting has no transcript, the Transcript tab shows "No transcript available for this meeting." and the transcript export buttons do not appear. Likewise, Copy summary appears only once the recap has content — while a meeting is still being processed there is no summary yet, so the button is hidden.
Download as a text file
Download the transcript as a .txt file to save locally or share with others:
- On the Transcript tab, click Download Text.
- The file downloads with a name like
Weekly Team Sync_transcript_2026-06-29.txt. The name combines the meeting title, the wordtranscript, and the date you export it.
Copy to clipboard
Copy the transcript to paste into an email, document, or another application:
- On the Transcript tab, click Copy to Clipboard.
- The button briefly changes to Copied! and a confirmation appears: "Transcript copied to clipboard".
- Paste the transcript wherever you need it (Ctrl+V / Cmd+V).
Copy the summary
The recap summary is the part most people paste into email, chat, or their own notes. You can copy it on its own, without the transcript:
- On the Summary tab, click Copy summary.
- The button briefly changes to Copied!.
- Paste it wherever you need it (Ctrl+V / Cmd+V).
What gets copied: the meeting title, date, and duration; the meeting description; the summary; any decisions; action items with their owner, due date, and whether they are done; and any to-do items. Sections with nothing in them are left out rather than pasted as empty headings.
What does not get copied: your private notes. The notes box on the recap is a personal scratchpad, so it is deliberately left out — copying the summary will never paste your private notes into a shared channel. To share those, copy them from the notes box yourself.
Transcript format
The downloaded file and the copied text use the same format: a short header followed by the conversation.
The header includes the meeting title, the date and start time, and the meeting duration when it is available. A === TRANSCRIPT === divider separates the header from the conversation. Each speaking turn is a two-line block: the speaker name and the wall-clock time they spoke, then what they said.
Example:
Meeting: Weekly Team Sync
Date: Wednesday, January 15, 2026 at 9:00 AM
Duration: 1h 0m
=== TRANSCRIPT ===

Troubleshooting
The transcript export buttons are not showing
- Make sure you are on the Transcript tab. Download Text and Copy to Clipboard export the transcript and live there; the Summary tab has its own Copy summary button instead.
- The buttons only appear once the meeting has a transcript. If you see "No transcript available for this meeting.", there is nothing to export yet.
- If the transcript is still being processed, wait for it to finish and refresh the page.
Copy summary is not showing
- The button appears only once the recap has something to copy. A meeting still being processed has no summary yet.
- If the recap says the notes are unavailable, there is nothing to copy — the meeting never produced a summary.
Copy to clipboard is not working
- Some browsers ask for permission before a site can write to the clipboard. Allow clipboard access for Groupthink and try again.
- If a copy fails, the button says Copy failed. Allow clipboard access and try again.
- If your browser blocks clipboard access, use Download Text instead and open the file. (There is no download option for the summary — copy it once clipboard access is allowed.)
