Known Issues

This page lists known issues with Groupthink and any available workarounds. We update this page as issues are resolved.

Bot Join Delays

Issue: The Groupthink bot may take 1 to 2 minutes to join a meeting after it starts.

Workaround: The bot will still capture the full meeting once it joins. If the bot hasn't joined after 3 minutes, try removing and re-adding Groupthink to the meeting from the Calendar view.

Private Desktop Recording on macOS — silent recording

Issue: A private desktop recording on macOS comes back silent or empty.

Workaround: Groupthink captures your meeting's audio using the macOS System Audio Recording permission (it no longer uses Screen Recording for audio). Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → System Audio Recording and make sure Groupthink is turned on, then stop and start the recording again — no app restart needed. Also confirm Microphone is enabled for Groupthink so your own voice is captured. See Troubleshooting Private Meeting Recording for more details.

Note: Screen Recording is a separate permission and is no longer required to capture audio. You only need it for the Capturing On-Screen Content feature.

Granting Full Disk Access Quits Groupthink

Issue: When you turn on Groupthink under System Settings > Privacy & Security > Full Disk Access, macOS immediately quits the app. This happens while setting up Messages import on a Mac.

Workaround: None needed. This is macOS applying the permission change, not a crash. Reopen Groupthink and go back to Settings > Ingestion. The card has a Restart Groupthink button for this, and a Check again button once you are back.

Activity Capture Records Blank Window Titles

Issue: Activity capture is running and recording app names and durations, but every window title is empty.

Workaround: Window titles need a second macOS permission. Turn on Groupthink under System Settings > Privacy & Security > Accessibility, then relaunch the app. The settings card also detects this and offers an Open Accessibility settings button. Automation and Accessibility sit next to each other in that list, so it is easy to grant one and think you granted both.

Notetaker Didn't Capture the Meeting

Issue: The Groupthink bot failed to join, captured nothing, or you used a different notetaker for the call, so the recap is empty.

Workaround: You don't lose the meeting. Open its recap page, click Log Interaction, and paste in a transcript, summary, or notes from any source. Groupthink builds the recap from what you paste. See Recover a Meeting Recap When the Notetaker Fails.

Google Meet Bot Name Display

Issue: The Groupthink bot may appear as "Unknown" briefly when joining Google Meet calls.

Workaround: The name typically resolves within a few seconds. No action needed.

Calendar Sync Delays

Issue: Recently added or modified calendar events may take a few minutes to appear in Groupthink.

Workaround: You can manually refresh by visiting the Calendar page in the Groupthink dashboard. If events still don't appear after 10 minutes, try disconnecting and reconnecting your calendar in Settings. See Reconnect your Google Calendar if you need step-by-step help.

Transcript Accuracy

Issue: Transcription accuracy may decrease with heavy accents, background noise, or overlapping speakers.

Workaround: Use a headset or dedicated microphone for best results. Private Desktop Recording sometimes provides better audio quality than bot-based recording.
