Conversations

Everything Groupthink took in, in one feed, with each source and its settings in the sidebar.

On this page

Conversations is the feed of everything that reached Groupthink: what you dictated, typed or pasted, the text conversations you captured or imported, the email you forwarded, and the files Groupthink read. Each of those sources is listed under Conversations in the left sidebar. Click one and you see the same feed narrowed to that source, with its settings in a pane at the top, so turning a source on or fixing it happens next to what it brought in.

This page used to be called Captures. The address is the same, so old links and bookmarks still land here.

Where to find it

In the left sidebar, Conversations is under Every day, just below Recaps (or Past Meetings). On the Mac, the menu bar icon has a Conversations… item that goes straight there. The page works the same in the desktop app and on the web at app.groupthink.com/capture/history.

The sources are listed under it, in this order:

Source What its feed shows More
Voice What you said with Voice Dictation. Voice Dictation
Typed & pasted What you typed in the Capture Box or pasted as notes. The Capture Box
Messages Text conversations you captured or imported. Capture a Text Conversation, Import Your Messages History on a Mac
Email Email that reached Groupthink, such as notes you forwarded. Forwarding Meeting Notes by Email
Slack Slack threads Groupthink took in.
Files Files and documents Groupthink read, such as photos and PDFs you uploaded. Capture: Upload Images, PDFs, and Voice Memos
Calendar Nothing here. Your calendar feeds meetings, and meetings live with their notes and recaps. Google Calendar, Outlook Calendar

If you collapse the sidebar to its icon rail, the sources are hidden and the Conversations icon opens the full feed.

The full feed

Click Conversations itself to see everything. A row of chips sits above the list: Yours, Spoken, Typed, Texts, Email, Files and All. All is the one you land on: everything that reached Groupthink, newest first. Yours narrows it to what you captured yourself.

Each row shows the text with a copy button, when it came in, and who it was about. A row Groupthink could not file to anyone says Not routed to a contact and has an Attach to contact button so you can file it yourself. Voice Dictation describes a row in full.

One source's feed

Click a source under Conversations and the page is titled with that source's name, for example Messages. The feed shows only what came from that source, so the chips are not shown; the sidebar is where you pick a source.

If nothing has come from that source yet, the page reads Nothing from followed by the source's name, for example Nothing from Messages yet.

Calendar is the exception. It has no feed of its own, because the meetings your calendar brings in are kept with their notes and recaps. The page says so and gives you an Open your meetings link.

Source settings

At the top of a source's page is a Messages settings pane (named for whichever source you are on), with a Source settings button that opens and closes it. It holds that source's settings and nothing else: the switch to turn it on, whether it is working, and how it works. For example, the Messages pane holds the Messages import and Phone numbers from your Mac's Contacts, which is what lets a text file itself under the right person.

The pane opens on its own when that source has nothing in its feed yet, since setting it up is the next thing to do. Once there is something to show, it starts closed.

If a source needs your attention, a dot appears on the Source settings button, so you can see it with the pane closed. Today that happens for Messages, when the Mac app no longer has Full Disk Access.

On the full Conversations feed the same pane is called How things get in and holds every source's settings at once, and the dot covers all of them.

The same settings still live under Settings > Capture. Change a source in either place and it is changed in both.
