Getting Started with Groupthink
Set up in about five minutes and capture your first conversation.
On this page
Welcome. Groupthink keeps a record of the people you work with, built from the conversations you already have. You talk to people, Groupthink listens (when you ask it to), and your notes on each person fill in on their own.
This guide walks you through the first five minutes. You do not need to set up everything at once. Step 1 is the only one that is required.
Step 1: Sign in
Go to app.groupthink.com and pick any sign-in option: Google, Microsoft, Apple, or email. There is no password to create. Your first sign-in creates your account.
Tip: if you want Groupthink to join your scheduled meetings, sign in with the Google or Microsoft account that holds your work calendar. More on sign-in: Signing in to Groupthink.
Step 2: Connect your calendar
This lets Groupthink see who you are meeting and when.
- Open Settings > Calendar.
- Click Connect on the Google Calendar card (or connect Outlook instead).
- Approve the request from Google.
Your upcoming meetings now show up under Upcoming in the sidebar. Step-by-step with screenshots: Google Calendar.
Step 3: Decide how Groupthink joins your meetings
On the same Settings page, under How should Groupthink attend your meetings?, pick one:
| Choice | What happens |
|---|---|
| Automatically Join All Meetings | A Groupthink notetaker joins your calls as a visible participant. |
| Privately Take Notes | Groupthink records through the desktop app. Nobody else sees it on the call. |
| Let Me Choose Each Time | Nothing joins on its own. You start the notetaker yourself when you want notes. |
Not sure? Pick Let Me Choose Each Time. You can change it any time.
Joining meetings needs an active trial or paid plan. Details: Automatic Meeting Notes.
Step 4 (optional): Get the desktop app
If you would rather not have a bot show up in your calls, the desktop app for Mac and Windows records privately from your computer instead. Download and set up the desktop app.
Step 5: Capture your first conversation
Pick whichever fits your day:
- Have a meeting. If Groupthink joins, you get a transcript, notes, and a recap when the call ends. Nothing to type. See Starting a Meeting.
- Jot down a quick note. At the top of the left sidebar there is a box that says Say something, or ask… Type a sentence like "had coffee with Theo, he is hiring a designer" and press Enter. Groupthink figures out who it is about. See The capture box.
- Paste in notes you already have. Click Relationships in the sidebar, then Log interaction on a person. Paste notes from anywhere and Groupthink pulls out what matters. See Log an Interaction.
Step 6: See what Groupthink learned
Click Relationships in the sidebar. Everyone you have captured something about is listed there, with when you last talked and what you know about them. Click a name to see their full page. See Relationships.
You will also start getting a Daily Brief email at 5pm on weekdays, with prep for tomorrow's meetings and recaps of today's. See Daily Brief Email.
